“The artist has vast creative experience – the range of her creative pursuits – poetry, prose, etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, photogravures, collages, digital images... Today Jurgita Gerlikaitė unexpectedly presents drawings as a new creative expression. These are drawings in ink and crayons on paper.
What distinguishes these drawings? First, the declared theme – conversations between the soul and the mind.
What are these conversations about? Do they take place when creating artworks? These are questions for each of us.
How does the artist express this? The author chooses a free drawing, as if suspended in boundless space, abstracts it and presents it as an idea, as an exchange of energy between two different poles. This is not an opposition, but a dialogue between the soul and the mind, a balance between the soul, as a carrier of ideas and a flow of high-frequency vibrations, and the mind, which is essentially logical, oriented towards reality, computation and analysis.
Having found the ideal balance between the soul and the mind, Jurgita’s drawings become independent artworks, each of which has its own voice and its own idea. They invite the viewer to find the essence of the conversation and why, and in what way the dialogue between the soul and the mind takes place.”
